- Coached the Iowa State swimming & diving team for 34 years and the golf squad for 22 seasons
- ISU won nine league swimming championships for McGuire, including three straight (1947-49)
- The Cyclone golfers – under McGuire’s direction – won the 1947 and 1953 Big Seven titles and recorded Top 25 national finishes in 1949, 1952 and 1953
- The 1949 swimmers were his best unit, winning their eighth straight league title (by a record 88 points) and setting 44 school records during the season
- McGuire spent 13 years on the swimming & diving rules committee and also served a term as president of the coaches’ association
