- Shattered the Big Eight record for career assists (665)
- In the 1986 NCAA Tournament first round, Hornacek hit a 26-foot jumper at the buzzer of overtime (vs. Miami, Ohio) for ISU’s first tourney win since 1944
- His jersey #14 was retired by both Iowa State and the NBA's Utah Jazz
- Second-round NBA draft pick by Phoenix, he went on to make the league’s all-star team in 1992
- After retiring as a player, Hornacek eventually became head coach of the Suns and the Knicks
