- Coached the Iowa State football team for five years and led it to the Sun and Liberty Bowls his final two years
- The ’71 team was one of the best in school annals (8-4 overall) with each loss coming to a ranked opponent (#5 Colorado, #2 Oklahoma, #1 Nebraska and #11 LSU)
- His first Cyclone coaching staff included football legends Jimmy Johnson and Jackie Sherrill
- Majors was a two-time All-America running back at Tennessee and runner-up (to Paul Hornung) for the Heisman Trophy
- After his Iowa State tenure, Majors took over the Pitt program and eventually led it to the 1976 national championship
