- Blocked for Dwayne Crutchfield – the Big Eight’s leading rusher – and earned a “winning performance” grade from his coaches in 36 career games
- Only Cyclone named to the Big Eight All-Decade team for the 1980s
- Started in Super Bowl XXI as the New York Giants defeated Denver, 39-20
- Diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, a cancer of the lymphatic system, and was forced to retire from the NFL in 1988
