- Menze’s 1944 basketball team was invited to the NCAA Tournament where it won the West Regional before falling to eventual champion Utah in the Final Four
- Mentored Iowa State’s first two All-Americans (Waldo Wegner and Jack Flemming)
- Led ISU to Big Six basketball titles in 1935, 1941, 1944 and 1945
- His best baseball team was the 1935 club, which was 12-3 and finished second in the league race
- The Iowa State Athletics Hall of Fame is named in his honor
