DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Dontay Harris scored 17 points and Mike Woodley made two free throws with 1.4 seconds to play as Drake held off Iowa State 48-44 Friday night.
Woodley made his two free throws after being fouled on an in-bounds play following a turnover by Iowa State. The Cyclones missed one shot and turned the ball over twice in their last three possessions.
Marcus Fizer, who led the Cyclones with 13 points, made two free throws with 54.6 seconds left to bring the Cyclones within two, 46-44.
Drake trailed just once in the game.
Lamont Evans made a pair of 3-pointers and Harris added a third as Drake pulled away to a 9-2 lead in the first four minutes. Iowa State (1-1) clawed back to take a 14-13 lead on Kantrail Horton's 3-pointer with 6:46 remaining in the first half, but Drake answered on a 3-pointer by Armand LeVasseur and the Bulldogs never trailed again.
The Bulldogs led 25-20 at halftime.
Iowa State trailed 37-29 midway through the second half before a 10-3 run, capped by a basket and two free throws by Brandon Hawkins, got the Cyclones within one, 40-39, with 5:38 remaining.
Harris hit a jump-hook in the lane for a 44-40 Drake lead with 4:08 to play.
Paul Shirley's putback with 2:53 left pulled Iowa State to within two, 44-42, before Harris gave Drake a 4-point lead with his two free throws with 1:02 left.
