TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The Iowa State softball team played a tough game but lost to No. 9 Florida State, 3-1, in the Cyclones' second game in the 2003 Sunshine State Tournament Friday night in Tallahassee, Fla. With the loss, ISU's record falls to 3-5. Junior Julia Lindsey continued her impressive play, notching ISU's only run of the game, while contributing four at-bats and two hits.
After a scoreless first inning, the Seminoles scored a run in each of the next three innings to lead the game, 3-0, after six innings. ISU scored a late run in the seventh inning. Sophomore Kim Rodgers also got a hit for the Cyclones. Iowa State had three hits and one error compared to nine hits and zero errors for Florida State.
Freshman Kristin Karanzias and senior Jen Bice split time at the pitching mound, combining for one strikeout and nine hits.
Iowa State will take on Florida State again on Saturday morning on the second day of the Sunshine State tournament. After that, the Cyclones will play Middle Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon. ISU beat Middle Tennessee State, 3-1, earlier on Friday.
