HOUSTON, Texas ? Kristi Randall hit a pair of homers to lift New Mexico State past Iowa State, 4-0, in the first game of the Marriott Houston Hobby Invitational Friday morning.
Randall finished the game 2-for-3 with four RBI as the Aggies improved to 10-2 with the win. The Cyclones fall to 2-9 with the loss.
Randall got the scoring started early, when she connected for a homer to lead off the bottom the first inning and put the Aggies up 1-0.
Randall again accounted for the New Mexico State scoring in the third as she blasted her second homer of the game, this one a three-run shot to center, to increase the Aggie lead to 4-0. Jenavieve Purcell and Stephanie Herrera came around to score on Randall's long ball.
That was all the scoring the Aggies would need as hurler Kim Watson (6-1) limited the Cyclones to just three hits in picking up the win.
Amie Ford (1-3) got the loss for the Cyclones, allowing four runs on six hits. Ford struck out four Aggie hitters before being relieved by freshman Charissa Carlin, who tossed two innings of hitless ball. Carlin also struck out a pair of
Kristy Olsen rapped two single en route to a 2-for-3 effort to lead the Cyclones offensively. Freshman Alex Johnson had the other Cyclone hit and Jessica Quade walked twice to move within one walk of eighth on the all-time
The Cyclones will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
