Monroe Drives In Four Runs In Cyclone Win

DENTON, Texas ? Carrie Monroe drove in a career-high four runs to lead Iowa State to a 9-1 win over Butler Sunday morning at the Sleep Inn Classic. With the win, Iowa State improves to 13-2 in 2009.
Monroe finished the day 2-for-3 while Courtney Wray went 3-for-4 with three RBI. Jacquelyn Beatty went 3-for-3 and drove in two. Beatty hit her second home run of the season in the game.

Iowa State grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The inning was highlighted by a two-run double from Monroe and a RBI single from Wray.
The Bulldogs (0-5) cut into the lead on an error which scored Erin Jackson in the bottom of the first. Jackson had doubled off Charissa Carlin to lead off the inning.
Beatty then got rolling at the plate for the Cyclones, hitting a solo homer in the second inning and doubling home Sydni Jones in the fourth to make it 5-1.
Monroe tacked on another two runs for ISU in the fifth inning, hitting a single that scored Kelsey Kidwell and Wray.
The Cyclones pushed their lead to eight runs in the sixth inning on a two-run single by Wray.
Carlin (6-1) closed the door on her sixth win of the season with a scoreless sixth inning. Carlin finished the game with five strikeouts while allowing just four hits.
Wray and Kelsey Kidwell stole two bases each in the game.
The Cyclones will be back in action next Friday when they travel to the Mayfair Tournament in Long Beach, Calif.
