Cyclones Fall To Sooners In Offensive Slugfest

NORMAN, Okla. ? Amber Flores hit a three-run, two-out homer in the bottom of the seventh inning as 11th-ranked Oklahoma rallied to defeat Iowa State, 10-7, Saturday afternoon in the Big 12 opener for the Cyclones.

Carleigh Berry went 3-for-4 and Courtney Wray finished 2-for-3 with four RBI for the Cyclones (17-14, 0-1 Big 12). Heidi Kidwell collected a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs in her first career Big 12 game.

The Sooners (25-8, 3-0) were led by Flores' 5-for-5 game. The shortstop had five RBI in the contest. Samantha Ricketts had her fifth homer of the season and drove in two runs for OU, which won its third-straight game.

Oklahoma took advantage of a passed ball to light up the scoreboard in the first inning as Chana'e Jones scored to make it 1-0.

The Cyclones tallied three runs in the top of the third to go on top 3-1. Berry and Wray had run-scoring hits for ISU in the inning as the Cyclones took their first lead of the game.

Oklahoma was able to knot things up in the bottom of the fourth as Katie Norris hit her fourth homer of the season to lead off the inning and Haley Anderson doubled to score Karolyne Long and make it 3-3.

The Cyclones responded in a big way in the top of the fifth on Wray's first homer of the season, a three-run shot that gave ISU the 6-3 edge. It was Wray's seventh career long ball.

Back-to-back fifth inning homers by Flores and Ricketts for the Sooners cut the Cyclones' lead to one at 6-5.

The Sooners put another two runs on the board in the sixth inning to go on top 7-6 but Iowa State scored to tie it in the top of the seventh inning. Alex Johnson had the clutch two-out hit in the seventh that scored Berry from second base.

Flores proved too much in the bottom of the seventh, belting her second homer of the game with two outs to give OU the win and improve it to 3-0 in Big 12 play.

Rachel Zabriskie (10-10) took the loss for the Cyclones, giving up seven runs in 4.2 innings of work.

D.J. Mathis (7-2) got the win for the Sooners, tossing a complete game eight hitter while allowing eight runs.

The Cyclones and Sooners will close out the season series Sunday at noon.
