COLUMBIA, Mo. – Iowa State (34-23, 6-12 Big 12) fell 5-0 to Missouri (41-15, 15-9 SEC) on Sunday afternoon in the Columbia Regional Final, bringing the team's NCAA Tournament run to an end.
Missouri 5, Iowa State 0
The Tigers started fast in front of a sold-out crowd at Mizzou Softball Stadium. A Brooke Wilmes lead-off walk to start the first inning turned into the first run of the day, as Hatti Moore collected a RBI double to center field to put the Cyclones in an early 1-0 hole.
Pitcher Karlie Charles entered in relief for the Cyclones following the lead-off walk to Wilmes and threw the next 2.1 innings for Iowa State.
Missouri tacked on two more runs in the top of the second. Abby George chopped a RBI single back at the circle, allowing Hannah McGivern to score. Wilmes then singled to center field to drive in another run, extending the lead to 3-0. A wild pitch in the third tacked on an additional Missouri run.
Ellie Spelhaug entered to pitch for ISU with the bases loaded and one out in the top of the third. The sophomore was excellent, putting together three straight scoreless frames to cool down the Tiger offense.
Missouri added its final run on a Wilmes solo home run in the top of the seventh, extending the lead to 5-0.
The Cyclones were unable to find a spark offensively against Missouri pitcher Jordan Weber, who ended the day with a no-hitter and seven strikeouts.
