CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --  The Iowa State softball team (1-3) split a pair of games against the Drake Bulldogs and the UNI Panthers in day two of the UNI Doc Halverson Tournament on Saturday.
In the first game against Drake, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 1-0 lead before the Cyclones tied it 1-1 in the top of the third. The Bulldogs responded quickly, Drake scored a run to go up 2-1 in the bottom of the third.
Drake would score in back-to-back innings to extend its lead to 4-1 before the Cyclones began to chip away at the Bulldog lead in the sixth inning. Iowa State scored two runs to cut the deficit to one but couldn't score the tying run.Â
In the second game against UNI, Iowa State jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning before UNI responded with a run of its own to make it 2-1 entering the third inning. The Panthers would tie the game 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning before the Cyclones scored four runs between the fourth and fifth innings to make it 6-2.
In the final frame, the Panthers plated two runs to trim ISU's lead from 6-2 to 6-4 before the final out.
How It Happened (Game 1 vs. Drake)
Angelina Allen recorded the first hit of the day for the Cyclones.
Allen reached on a ground-rule double.
Tatum Johnson made her Cyclone pitching debut against the Bulldogs.
Johnson's final line was 3.2 IP / 5 Hits / 3 Runs
The Bulldogs plated one run in the first inning.
The Cyclones led the second inning off with a walk but failed to advance the runner.
Tatum Johnson pitched a 1-2-3 inning for ISU in the second inning.
Johnson forced a line out and two ground-outs to retire the side.
Iowa State tied the game 1-1 in the third.
Kasey Simpson started the third inning with a walk for the Cyclones.
Angelica Gonzalez came in to pinch-run for Simpson.
Mikayla Ramos came up clutch with two outs in the third inning.
Ramos hit an RBI double to score Gonzalez and tie the game 1-1.
Ramos is now tied with Alex Johnson (2007-10) with 134 career RBIs.
Drake scored its second run of the game in the bottom of the third inning.
Sophie Maras led the fourth inning off with a single to left field.
ISU failed to advance Maras.
Drake added another run in the fourth inning to extend its lead 3-1.
Jaiden Ralston made her ISU debut after she replaced Tatum Johnson in the circle.
Ralston recorded a strikeout to end the inning.
The Bulldogs recorded a 1-2-3 inning in the fifth.
Drake plated its fourth run of the game in the fifth inning.
Iowa State scored two runs in the sixth frame to close in on Drake's lead.
Mikayla Ramos singled to begin the top of the sixth inning.
Olivia Wardlow entered as a pinch runner.
Wardlow stole second base.
Sophie Maras forced a walk.
Milaysia Ochoa was hit by a pitch to load the bases for ISU.
Tiana Poole recorded her first collegiate RBI after she singled to center field with the bases loaded to make it 2-4.
Camille Marin came through with a sacrifice fly to score Sophie Maras from third to trim Drake's lead to one.
Jaiden Ralston recorded her first 1-2-3 inning as a Cyclone in the sixth.
Despite a leadoff triple by Carli Spelhaug, Iowa State couldn't score the game-tying run in the final frame.
How It Happened (Game 2 vs. UNI)
Angelina Allen recorded the first hit of the game for ISU.
Allen doubled to right center field with two outs in the first inning.
After a leadoff walk, Karlie Charles forced three straight Panthers to fly out in the first inning.
Iowa State struck first with two runs in the second inning.
Milaysia Ochoa led off the second inning with a single.
Ashley Minor hit her first collegiate homerun to put the Cyclones up 2-0.
UNI scored one run in the second inning to trim ISU's lead to one.
Iowa State went 1-2-3 in the third inning.
The Panthers tied the game 2-2 after a home run in the third inning.Â
In the fourth inning, ISU regained the lead after Tiana Poole hit her first collegiate home run to make it 3-2 Cyclones.
The Panthers went down in order in the fifth inning.
Karlie Charles forced a fly out, foul out and a ground out.
ISU scored three runs in the fifth inning to extend its lead 6-2.
Carli Spelhaug led the fifth inning off with a single.
Mikayla Ramos reached via error.
Spelhaug advanced to second.
Olivia Wardlow came in to pinch run for Ramos.
Alesia Ranches walked to load the bases.
Malaysia Ochoa walked.
Carli Spelhaug scored.
Tiana Poole came through with a bases-loaded double to score two more runs.
Saya Swain replaced Karlie Chalres in the circle in the bottom of the fifth.
Charles' final line was 4.0 IP / 3 Hits / 2 runs / 1 strikeout.
Swain recorded two strikeouts while holding the Panthers scoreless in the fifth inning.
Iowa State went down in order in the sixth.
The Cyclones put a runner on second base but couldn't add to its four run lead in the top of the seventh inning.
After two Swain strikeouts, UNI scored two in the seventh to make it 6-4.

The Cyclones will face UNI tomorrow morning on the final day of the UNI Doc Halverson Tournament. First pitch is set for 11:30 a.m. against the Panthers.
