Ames, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team opened its first-ever home fall tournament by going undefeated in singles on day one, with Gabriella Kellner, Suzanie Pretorius and Kira Smith all picking up victories.
Kellner and Pretorius began the day by falling in doubles to Minnesota's Anlin Xie and Yiong Ma, before each picking up respective singles wins. Kellner took down Ma, 6-4, 6-2, while Pretorius defeated Xie, 7-6 (2), 6-7 (2), 7-5. Pretorius moved to 4-0 in singles on the season with the win.
Kira Smith was the next Cyclone in action and teamed up with Arkansas' Glennah Langford, to beat Kansas State's Addison and Mallory Renfro, 8-2. Smith then defeated Addsion Renfro, 6-1, 6-1 in singles to cap-off a 2-0 day. The wins mark Smith's first collegiate victories.
Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Gabriela Felix fell in both their doubles matches.
The Cyclones will be back in action for day two at 10 a.m. Saturday morning.
