Ames, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team finished day one at the Drake Invite in Des Moines on Friday, picking up two doubles wins and a singles win in total.
In doubles, both Cyclone pairs of Valeska San Martin Ramirez and Gabriella Kellner, and Gabriela Felix and Kira Smith fell in their opening match, but would come back to win their second match of the day. San Martin and Kellner defeated Eastern Michigan's Matilde Parreira and Sabrina Tolstova, 6-1, while Felix and Smith took down Northern Iowa's Sedina Begic and Abbie Peterson, 6-0.
In singles, San Martin was the lone Cyclone to pick up a victory, winning a tight battle against Nebraska-Omaha's Nina Wiese, 7-6 (6), 2-6, [10-7].
The Cyclones will be back in action in Des Moines Saturday morning.
