Alberto Vilar, Shulzhenko Advance To Doubles Semifinals

Ames, Iowa – Mari Paz Alberto Vilar and Stanislava Shulzhenko headlined a jam-packed day of Iowa State tennis around the state of Texas, as the doubles pair advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Sectionals in College Station.
Alberto Vilar and Shulzhenko took down Northwestern's Mika Fruchtman and Neena Feldman, 6-2, 4-6, [10-8], to earn a spot in the semis, where they'll face Daria Smetannikov and Mia Kupress from Texas A&M at 10 a.m. Saturday morning. Alberto Vilar fell short in her second-round singles match Friday in three sets.
Over at the H-E-B Invitational in Waco, the Cyclones picked up three doubles and two singles wins on the opening day of the tournament. Gabriella Kellner and Valeska San Martin Ramirez won both of their doubles matches, defeating Denver's Simyrn Jacob and Natali Jaiani, 6-3, and UTSA's Giuliana Giardina and Natalia Guerrero, 7-5. The pair of Suzanie Pretorius and Julia Camblor won their first doubles match, 6-4, over UTRGV's Valentina Urraco and Mariia Bakhtina, before falling in their second.
Kellner and San Martin each picked up singles wins as well. Kellner took down Milica Vasiliki Milosavljevic from UTRGV, 6-3, 6-1, while San Martin downed Illinois' Rose Seccia, 6-4, 6-4, to cap off 3-0 days for each of them. Camblor, Pretorius and Kira Smith each fell short in their respective singles matches.
The Cyclones will be back in action at the H-E-B Invitational Saturday. Time TBD.
