The Cyclones continued their season as Iowa State sent three swimmers to the 2025 Toyota U.S. Open National Championships in Austin while the divers opened day one of the Minnesota Invitational in Minneapolis. The Cyclones were highlighted by Grace Swoboda's finals performance in the 50m breaststroke, marking another strong appearance for the breaststroke group.
How It Happened
Iowa State's presence at the U.S. Open was felt through the breaststroke group, as Grace Swoboda and Matilde Geromin took on the 50m breaststroke prelims Thursday morning. Swoboda earned a spot in the B Final, where she placed 13th with a time of 32.20, closing strong on day one of the meet. Her time placed her just 1.72 seconds behind the event winner.
Geromin also competed in the prelims, continuing to build experience on the national stage in her first appearance at the U.S. Open.
On the diving side, the Cyclone divers opened their weekend in Minneapolis with the preliminary round of 1 meter diving. While none advanced to the finals, the group competed well across a large range of competition, including California, Denver, Harvard Minnesota, Rutgers and UNLV.
Kate Mitchell led the way for Iowa State with a score of 243.60 to finish in a tie for 10th, just outside the top eight cutoff. Jade Hazes followed closely behind in 15th with a score of 240.75.
