MIAMI, Fla. – Iowa State (1-3) earned its first win of the 2025 season Saturday, splitting a pair of games in the Felsberg Invitational. ISU was bested by Indiana (3-1) by a score of 9-1 in the opening game, before toppling undefeated FIU (3-1) in the nightcap, 7-5.
The Cyclones were stifled at the plate in the early contest, producing just two hits and one run. Indiana on the other hand, recorded 11 hits and had nine runs, winning in five innings.
In game two, ISU produced its most hits in a game this season, earning 11 knocks. The Cyclones also scored their most runs of the season with seven, as three Cyclones had multi-hit games. Sami Potvin earned her first career win in the game.
Indiana 9, ISU 1 (5)
Indiana's Jenae Berry threw four hitless innings against ISU, blanking the Cyclones and limiting the Cyclone offense. After a quick start which featured back-to-back hits before going up 1-0, Iowa State would be outscored 9-0 through the next four innings.
For the Cyclones, both Sereniti Trice and Angelina Allen had hits, while Jessie Clemons collected the team's lone RBI. Three pitchers saw the circle for ISU, with Lauren Schurman taking the loss.
For Indiana, seven players had hits, and the team had seven steals. The activity on the basepaths with active bats resulted in a lopsided, run-rule win for Indiana.
How it Happened
Iowa State saw both Trice and Allen record back-to-back hits to begin the game. Both would be moved over by a Bartholomew groundout before Clemons sent a deep fly ball into the outfield to bring home Trice for a sac fly.
From there it was all Indiana though. The Hoosiers tacked on two runs in the second and five in the third before walking things off in the fifth. Three of Indiana's runs came as a direct result of a wild pitch.

FIU had ten hits and five RBI on the evening, drawing four walks. Three Panthers, like ISU, had two or more hits. All three FIU pitchers threw 2.1 innings of work, as the team dropped its first game of the year.
How it Happened
Iowa State jumped out to a quick lead in both games today, doing so again against FIU. Trice led off with a single into left, before Allen cranked her first homer of the year over the right field wall to give ISU the 2-0 lead.
FIU responded in the bottom of the second, as a single down the left field line would bring in two to knot the game up at two-apiece.
The Cyclones added another pair of runs in the top od the third. Trice and Allen drew back-to-back outs, and then, with two outs, Clemons doubled into right center to bring them both in and put ISU up 4-2.
FIU would us a one-run fourth frame and a two-run fifth frame to take the lead, 5-4, heading into the sixth.
With runners on the corners and one out, Trice grounded out to second, but a run would come across, tying things up at five-all.
The Iowa State bats found life in the seventh, as a pair of RBI doubles from Sydney Malott and Isabelle Nosan gave ISU a two-run lead headed to the bottom of the frame. From there, Potvin handled business as ISU claimed its first win of the year.
