Kipkore Earns First Big 12 Women’s Runner of the Week Award

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State cross country redshirt freshman Betty Kipkore was named the Big 12 Women's Runner of the Week, announced by the conference Tuesday afternoon. Kipkore led the Cyclone women to a team title at the Cyclone Preview last Friday.

Kipkore also claimed the individual crown on Friday, finishing the women's 5K race in 16:44.3 in her Iowa State debut. After running with the lead pack to start the race, Kipkore eventually pulled away after several kilometers for an eventual 12-second gap from teammate and runner-up Bella Heikes.

The Iowa State women will compete at the Gans Creek Classic in Columbia on September 27. The loaded, large field at Missouri should lend valuable experience to a young squad looking to return to the NCAA Championship in November.
