The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a 3.5 cumulative GPA and the proper athletic accomplishments to make the ballot. Lipsey was previously named to the Academic All-District® Team and advanced to the national ballot. All student-athletes are required to have one year in residence or be a transfer to be eligible for the team.
Lipsey, a three-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection, averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game this season. He is the only Power Conference player in the country to average those numbers since 2022 and the first Cyclone to do so since Tyrese Haliburton in 2019-20. His 3.33 assist-to-turnover ratio is the seventh-best in school history, while his 2.3 steals per game is eighth in school history. He ranks fourth in school history with 77 steals this season, while his six games with five-plus steals are the most in school history.
One of the best Cyclones of all time, Lipsey is the Iowa State career leader in steals with 313, while he ranks fourth in assists with 602. His 137 career starts are the most in program history, while his 98 career wins are the second-most in program history. Lipsey averaged 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game over his 137 games as a Cyclone.
