PORTSMOUTH, Va. –Iowa State senior Tamin Lipsey has been selected to play in the 2026 Portsmouth Basketball Invitational Tournament. Team rosters, with eight teams making up the field, will be announced in the near future for the senior showcase, taking place April 15-18.
Lipsey will be the fourth Cyclone under T.J. Otzelberger to play in Portsmouth, as Curtis Jones played in the 2025 event, while Gabe Kalscheur and Osun Osunniyi played in the 2023 event. Jones was a member of the champion Jani-King Team, while he was also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Lipsey, a three-time Big 12 All-Defensive Team selection, averaged 13.5 points, 5.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. He is the only Power Conference player in the country to average those numbers since 2022 and the first Cyclone to do so since Tyrese Haliburton in 2019-20. His 3.33 assist-to-turnover ratio is the seventh-best in school history, while his 2.3 steals per game is eighth in school history. He ranks fourth in school history with 77 steals this season, while his six games with five-plus steals are the most in school history.
One of the best Cyclones of all-time, Lipsey is the Iowa State career leader in steals with 313, while he ranks fourth in assists with 602. His 137 career starts are the most in program history, while his 98 career wins are the second-most in program history. Lipsey averaged 11.0 points, 4.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game over his 137 games as a Cyclone.
The P.I.T. invites 64 of the best college basketball seniors from across the nation to participate in the four-day, 12-game tournament in front of representatives from every NBA team.
