Lee Stalker is in his third season at Iowa State serving as quality control for the defense. In 2023, his first season on staff, Stalker was assistant director of player personnel.
Stalker joined the Cyclone coaching staff after two seasons as linebackers coach at Kent State.
The 2024 Cyclones posted the best season in school history, finishing 11-3 overall and recording the first double-digit win season in the program's 133-year history. ISU went 7-2 in conference play and advanced to its second Big 12 Championship game before finishing the season with a win against No. 15 Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl. Iowa State ended the campaign ranked No. 15 in the final AP Top 25, the second-highest ranking in program history to end a season.
The Cyclone defense battled through a myriad of injuries and allowed just 22.9 points per game, ranking among the top five in the Big 12 Conference. Seven defensive players earned All-Big 12 honors, including defensive linemen Domonique Orange and J.R. Singleton.
In his first season with the Cyclones, ISU went 7-6 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 play, posting the largest conference win improvement (+5) among Power-5 teams and playing in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl.
The Cyclone defensive unit was again a strength as ISU finished among the top-three Big 12 teams in total defense (363.2), rushing defense (134.2) and scoring defense (22.8).
Stalker helped the Golden Flashes to the 2021 MAC East Championship and a berth in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. In 2022, two of his linebackers, Khalib Johns and Marvin Pierre, earned MAC Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The 2021 Kent State defense ranked among the nation’s Top 10 in takeaways and turnover margin.
Prior to KSU, Stalker spent two seasons as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Valdosta State. The Blazers went 10-1 and won the Gulf South Conference Championships in 2019.
Stalker has also worked at Tiffin University (2014-18) and Oberlin College (2013), as well as a stint at his alma mater Butler High School.
The Butler, Pennsylvania, native, played at Kent State from 2007-11 and was a two-year starter and team captain in 2011. He earned his bachelor’s degree in architecture and environmental design in 2012, while also earning a minor in sports administration.
