Iowa State was 7-2 in conference play and reached its second-ever Dr Pepper Big 12 Championship game. It went on to defeat No. 15 Miami in a 42-41 thriller in the Pop-Tart Bowl to cap the season.
ISU's conditioning proved its mettle once again as the Cyclones outscored opponents 225-127 in the second half of games and 139-58 in the fourth quarter on its way to the record-setting season.
Wide receiver Jayden Higgins earned All-America honors and 15 Cyclones earned All-Big 12 recognition, including five on the first or second teams. Kick returner and punt returner Jaylin Noel was named Big 12 Co-Special Teams Player of the Year, in addition to being an honorable mention selection at wide receiver.
During his first stop in Ames, the Cyclones won eight games in each of his final two seasons, winning the 2017 Liberty Bowl and reaching the 2018 Alamo Bowl.
