Completed Event: Football versus #17 Kansas State on August 23, 2025 , Win , 24, to, 21

Former Iowa State All-Big 12 performer Sam Seonbuchner is in his fourth season on the staff. He joined the ISU staff as an offensive graduate assistant in 2022 and served in that role again in 2023. He moved to quality control in charge of the offensive run game in 2024.
Iowa State posted one of its greatest seasons in 2024, finishing 11-3 overall as it won double-digit games for the first time in program history. The Cyclones reached the program's second Big 12 Championship game and defeated Miami in the Pop-Tarts Bowl.Â
The ISU offense had a record-setting season in 2024, tallying a single-season best 52 offensive touchdowns, including 27 rushing touchdowns which tied for the fourth-most in school history. Individually, Carson Hansen had 13 rushing touchdowns, becoming ISU's first non-QB outside NFL stars David Montgomery and Breece Hall to rush for 10 touchdowns in a season since 2005. Five different Cyclone running backs had touchdowns in 2024.
The 2023 Iowa State offensive unit saw great growth despite having just two senior starters. The Cyclones were led by the Big 12 Offensive Rookie of the Year in quarterback Rocco Becht, who shattered nearly every freshman record at the school. Becht connected with juniors Jaylin Noel (66 receptions) and Jayden Higgins (53) for 119 receptions, 1,803 yards and 13 touchdowns as Iowa State returned to the AutoZone Liberty Bowl and finished 7-6 overall and 6-3 in Big 12 action.
Iowa State tight ends combined for seven touchdowns with Benjamin Brahmer earning Freshman All-American honors from The Athletic along with Becht. Another freshman, running back Abu Sama III, ran for 614 yards, the third-most by any Cyclone freshman, and six touchdowns. Sama had five 50-plus yard touchdown carries as he earned 247Sports True Freshman All-America accolades.
The Cyclone offense was highlighted by a record-setting season from Xavier Hutchinson in 2022. Hutchinson earned All-America honors and was a Biletnikoff Award Finalist, breaking his own single-season record with 107 receptions and ranking among the nation's leaders in receptions per game (8.9) and receiving yards (1,171). ISU tight ends DeShawn Hanika (4) and Easton Dean (2) caught six touchdown passes.
Seonbuchner was an offensive assistant at Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2021 working with the tight ends and running backs. Seonbuchner helped mentor All-American Austin Belot, who led the league and ranked fifth nationally in rushing yards (1.405). Belot set the school record for rushing yards in a game with 364 vs. Luther.
Seonbuchner was a two-time honorable mention All-Big 12 selection at tight end in his final two seasons at Iowa State (2017, 2018) after making the switch from linebacker to offense. Seonbuchner initiated ISU’s outstanding run of standouts at the F position, preceding All-Big 12 performers Dylan Soehner and Jared Rus.
The Cyclones made a pair of bowl games in his final two seasons, including a victory in the 2017 Liberty Bowl. He was awarded the Bill Dailey Unsung Hero Award as a senior.
A native of Oconomowoc, Wis., Seonbuchner competed at NFL Rookie Camps for Green Bay and Buffalo after earning his degree from Iowa State in 2018.
