- Served as wrestling coach for 30 years (1924-53), his dual mark was 159-66-5
- Served as the Cyclones'Â Director of Athletics in 1923-24
- Also coached the golf team, leading his 1940 club to the Big Six Championship and seventh place at the national meet
- Coached the 1932 U.S. Olympic wrestling team to three gold and two silver medals
- Helped run the first NCAA Wrestling Championship (1928), hosted in Ames
- Tournament director of the first NCAA Golf Championship – held at Wakonda Country Club in Des Moines – in 1939 and was first chairman of the NCAA Golf Committee
