- The 1996 Cyclones upset Kansas in the championship game of the Big Eight Tournament (the last one before the league became the Big 12) and the ’97 team advanced to the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen
- Won 81 games at Iowa State and his 63% winning rate was the best in school history at the time
- Big Eight Coach of the Year in 1996 when he was runner-up for Associated Press National Coach of the Year (to Purdue’s Gene Keady)
- Six of his Cyclones went onto NBA careers and Floyd, too, spent time on sidelines of the Bulls and Hornets
