AMES, Iowa (AP) -- Marcus Fizer scored 24 points as Iowa State beat Colorado 86-72 Sunday.
The victory was Iowa State's 15th straight at home, its 12th in a row overall and its eighth consecutive win against Colorado at home. The Cyclones (15-2 overall, 3-0 Big 12) are off to their best start since the 1994-95 team started with a 17-2 record. Iowa State's last 3-0 start in league play came in 1977-78.
Stevie Johnson and Jamaal Tinsley each finished with 13 points and Brandon Hawkins came off the bench to score 12 points, all in the second half.
Iowa State extended a 39-27 halftime lead to as many as 30 points twice in the second half and led by a comfortable 26 points, 80-54, when coach Larry Eustachy began liberally substituting with 4:40 to play.
Iowa State made its first seven shots of the second half and 12 of its first 13 to move to a 69-42 lead with 10:53 remaining and coasted the rest of the way.
The Cyclones grabbed their first 30-point advantage when Brandon Hawkins capped a 6-0 run with a layup, putting Iowa State ahead 76-46 with 6:42 left.
The Cyclones led just 20-18 at the 9:58 mark of the first half before taking control of the game on a 11-2 run that saw them open up a 31-20 lead with 3:01 left in the half.
Colorado (9-6, 0-3) was led by Jamahl Mosley's 16 points. Jaquay Walls added 15.
