MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Marcus Fizer scored 17 points and Paul Shirley added 14 as Iowa State beat Kansas State 72-61 Wednesday night and stretched its school-record winning streak to 13 games.
The Cyclones (16-2, 4-0 Big 12) took control with a late flurry in the first half and never gave up the lead en route to their first 4-0 conference start since 1943-44.
It was the second road win in the streak and put Iowa State just one win away from the school record of winning 17 of its first 19.
When Fizer went to the bench for almost three minutes with his third foul early in the second half, the Wildcats sliced the lead to 47-43. But then Shirley hit a pair of free throws, Jamaal Tinsley canned a 3-pointer and Brandon Hawkins scored on a layup as the Cyclones quickly established a 54-43 advantage.
Kansas State, which had not lost at home to Iowa State in three years, never got closer than four despite a 19-point performance by Cortez Groves and 18 points from Galen Morrison.
Kansas State (8-7, 1-3) lost its third in a row and just its second in nine home games.
Fizer, the Big 12's leading scorer, also had seven rebounds. Tinsley had 13 points for the Cyclones and Stevie Johnson added 12.
There were five ties and eight lead changes the first 10 minutes of the game until Fizer and Michael Nurse led a 22-12 run the final 9:50 that gave the Cyclones a 38-30 halftime lead.
With 1:11 left in the half, Iowa State led 38-26 on Fizer's dunk, then the Wildcats got a jumper from Morrison and Groves stole an inbounds pass and drove in for a layup.
Groves scored 13 points in the first half.
