ISU moved to the vault, earning a 48.350. 2001 Big 12 vault champion Kringen won the event with a 9.775 to become the 2001 North Central Region Vault Champion. However, in order to advance to the NCAA championship competition as an individual, an athlete must score a 9.8 or higher as an event winner. Sophomore Karen Kuplicki earned a 9.725 to place fourth and senior Lauren Goldberg tied for sixth with a 9.675.

The Cyclones had two falls and had to count a 9.175. 2001 Big 12 balance beam champion Sweitzer earned a 9.85 to become the North Central Region Balance Beam Champion and advance to the national competition. Huey, sophomore Courtney Sarrett and freshman Chee Chee Calina all earned a 9.775 to tie for sixth place.
Huey tied for third in the all-around competition with a 38.950 to advance to as an individual all-around competitor in national competition. The top-two qualifiers that are not advancing with one of the top two teams advance to national competition.
