SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The Iowa State softball team fell to San Diego State, 4-0, late Friday night in the team's second game of the Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif. The tournament is being hosted by San Diego State. With the loss, Iowa State falls to 1-6 on the season. Junior Kim Rodgers and freshman Katie Reichling led the way for the Cyclones with a hit each.
San Diego State jumped on the scoreboard first, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Aztecs added another run in the fourth inning and one in the sixth. Iowa State had two hits and two errors compared to San Diego State's four hits and one error. Freshman Ashley Killeen and Jessica Quade led the way defensively for ISU with six putouts a piece. Quade also had one assist. Freshman Alyssa Ransom pitched her third collegiate game on the mound and took the loss. She scattered four hits over six innings while having five strikeouts and three walks. San Diego State's Cori Janelli struck out seven ISU batters.
Iowa State will continue play at the 2004 Campbell/Cartier Classic on Saturday when it plays Long Beach State and Sacramento State.
