ISU Softball Drops Game to Cal State Northridge in the Campbell/Cartier Classic

SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? The Iowa State softball team played a tough game but lost to Cal State Northridge, 6-3, Friday night in the Cyclones first game of San Diego State's Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, Calif. With the loss, ISU's record falls to 1-5. Junior Misty Kimura continued her impressive play at the plate with two hits. She stretched her hitting streak to three games now. Seniors Julia Lindsey and Ashley Core and freshman Fallon Johnson each had runs for the Cyclones.

Cal State Northridge got on the scoreboard first when they scored two runs right away in the first inning. The Matadors added two more runs in the second inning and two more in the third. Cal State Northridge led 6-0 after three innings. The Cyclones got on the board late in the fourth inning and scored one run each in the fifth and sixth innings. Senior Kelly Wardein added two hits, Lindsey had one, freshman Ashley Killeen and Jessica Quade each had one as well as junior Kim Rodgers. Iowa State had eight hits and three errors compared to Cal State Northridge's nine hits and three errors.

Sophomore Kristen Karanzias and freshman Katie Reichling split time on the pitching mound and scattered nine hits over six innings while having two strikeouts and two walks.

The Cyclones had a late game scheduled for Friday night against host San Diego and will continue to play in the Campbell/Cartier Classic on Saturday.
