Senior Julia Lindsey had one RBI and one hit for her 20th hit of the season. Freshman Katie Reichling and Alyssa Ransom split time on the pitching mound and combined for three strikeouts and five walks. Ransom took the win, her sixth of the season.
Both teams were scoreless through the first inning, but both teams got on the scoreboard in the second inning when Kelly Wardein scored off a Cary Akins double. But Texas Tech answered with two runs of their own. Iowa State scored in the third inning as Reichling hit her first home run of the season, but Texas Tech answered right back and the Red Raiders took a 3-2 lead going into the fourth inning. The Cyclones had a huge fourth inning when Jessica Quade, Kimura and Wardein all scored to give the Cyclones a 5-3 lead, ISU added two more runs in the fifth and Texas tech added one in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as ISU won the game, 7-4, to even its league record to 1-1.
Texas Tech had eight hits to the Cyclones' seven, but Texas Tech had three errors to ISU's zero. ISU had a good day with the bats and spread the offense around. In addition to Akins and Kimura's hits, the Cyclones also got hits from Lindsey (1), Quade (1) and Reichling.
