DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Alyssa Ransom threw a three-hit gem and four Cyclone hitters had two hits as Iowa State (13-10) cruised to a 8-0 win over Central Connecticut State on Saturday in action at the Bethune-Cookman Tournament.
Ransom (6-6) scattered the three Blue Devil hits and struck out seven batters to help ISU to its second win over the Blue Devils this season. ISU defeated Central Connecticut State (1-9) 15-1 earlier this season at the Charleston Southern Tournament.
The game ended early when Ellen Buehner came across despite a double play ball in the sixth inning. Fallon Johnson had scored earlier in the inning on an error by CCSU.
The Cyclones lit the scoreboard up in the second when Katie Reichling scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jennifer Bigbee.
Leading 1-0, ISU extended the lead to 4-0 on three hits and an error by the Blue Devils. Ashley Killeen and Jessica Quade each recorded RBI in the inning with Killeen grounding out to plate Fallon Johnson and Quade driving in Buehner on a single.
Iowa State would score a run in each of the next three innings to reach the final margin. Buehner and Katherine Cross each ripped singles that scored runs and Johnson scored on another error by CCSU.
Buehner, Johnson and Reichling each scored two runs for the Cyclones, who also had four stolen bases in the game. Johnson went 2-for-3 for ISU as the leadoff hitter while Buehner (2-for-4), Quade (2-for-2) and Reichling (2-for-4) each joined Johnson with two hits in the game.
Samantha Keltos (0-4) took the loss for the Blue Devils, allowing all eight runs on 12 Cyclone hits.
