AMES, Iowa - Katie Reichling's sixth inning grand slam propelled Iowa State to a 4-2 win over Kennesaw State and gave them the championship at the Charleston Southern Tournament in Summerville, S.C. on Sunday afternoon.
Kennesaw State (12-9) pitcher Lisa Lamb (6-2) had controlled the Cyclones for much of the game until Reichling's first career grand slam gave the Cyclones a 4-2 lead.
Iowa State (10-6) took advantage of a leadoff bunt single by Ellen Buehner and an error that allowed Fallon Johnson to reach. Ashley Killeen, who hit a grand slam against Charleston Southern on Sunday, then singled to load the bases and Reichling blasted the Cyclones' second grand slam in as many days.
Kennesaw State scored a pair of single runs in the second and third innings to jump out to a 2-0 lead.
Alyssa Ransom (5-3) recorded her fifth straight win after opening the season 0-3. Reichling allowed two runs on four hits.
Lamb (6-2) got the loss after giving up four runs on five hits.
