AMES, Iowa - Cat Osterman struck out 19 Iowa State batters to lead No. 1 ranked Texas past the Cyclones, 6-0, in the second game of a doubleheader at Southwest Athletic Complex.
Osterman controlled the game from the beginning, striking out the first seven Iowa State (15-15, 1-3 Big 12) hitters after Texas jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning.
Desiree Williams hit a two-run double off of Iowa State pitcher Amie Ford to open the scoring and Amber Hall added to the lead with a two-run home run, her third of the season, to stake Texas (38-3, 5-0 Big 12) to a 4-0 lead after one inning.
Osterman (23-1) retired the first 16 Iowa State hitters before Jennifer Bigbee broke up the no-hit bid with a double down the right field line in the sixth. Fallon Johnson ripped a two-out single just off the glove of Texas first baseman Rachael Cook to extend her hitting streak to 10 games. Osterman was able to get Ellen Buehner out to end the threat and retired the Cyclones in order in the seventh inning to pick up the win.
Jaclyn Daniels' extended the Longhorn lead in the sixth inning with a two-run pinch hit homer, her first of the season.
Ford (9-6) got the loss for Iowa State, striking out six batters but allowing six runs on 12 hits.
Iowa State will take the field again on Tuesday when they host intrastate rival Iowa in the final contest of this year's Hy-Vee Cy-Hawk Series. ISU has clinched the series and is leading 13-3. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
