LINCOLN, Neb. - Ashley DeBuhr tossed a one-hitter and Nebraska took advantage of some costly errors by Iowa State to defeat the Cyclones, 8-0, on Thursday evening at Bowlin Stadium.
Nebraska (33-8, 7-4 Big 12) jumped on the Cyclones (19-21, 3-7 Big 12), taking advantage of a pair of errors to go up 4-0 after two innings.
Crystal Carwile started the inning with a double to left center off of Iowa State's Amie Ford. Carwile scored from second when Trisha Tannahill placed a bunt that sailed perfectly over Jessica Quade and Ford for a single.
An error scored Tannahill and two more runs came across on a single off the bat of LizzyAumua.
Tannahill put the Huskers up 7-0 with a three-run homer that just stayed inside the right field foul pole.
That would be all the scoring Husker pitcher Ashley DeBuhr would need. Debuhr (16-6) allowed just one hit, a fourth inning single by Ashley Killeen.
The game ended in the sixth on a RBI single by Jamie Waldecker. Lizzy Aumua scored on the play after advancing to third on an improbable error. The previous at bat saw Jessica Yoachim pop out to short and Cary Akins tried to double up Aumua on the play. Akins throw hit the sliding Aumua's foot and sailed into the bullpen, allowing Aumua to advance to third.
Amie Ford (10-10) got the loss for Iowa State, allowing seven runs on five hits. Katie Reichling pitched well in relief despite allowing the game winning single. Reichling struck out two batters and allowed four hits in two innings of work.
Tannahill led the Huskers, going 2-for-3 with four RBI in the game.
The Cyclones will be back in action this weekend as they host Oklahoma in a Big 12 series. First pitch on Saturday is slated for 2 p.m. at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
