LUBBOCK, Texas - Erin Crawford tossed a two-hitter and Robyn Wike drove in two RBI as Texas Tech took the first game of the Big 12 series with Iowa State, 2-0, at Rocky Johnson field.
Iowa State (16-17, 1-4 Big 12) pitcher Alyssa Ransom and Texas Tech's (14-23, 3-4 Big 12) Crawford handcuffed the opposing batters until Wike got the Red Raiders on the board in the fourth.
Wike drove in a pair of runs with a two-out double to right center to score Jennifer Bowers and Alex Watkins and put the Red Raiders on top 2-0. Ransom was able to regain control, striking out Heather Parker and stranding Wike at second to end the inning.
The Cyclones were unable to string together hits against Crawford, managing just solo singles by Katie Reichling in the second and seventh innings. Reichling advanced as far as third in the second but ISU was retired without putting a run on the scoreboard.
Reichling drilled a one-out single off the leg of Crawford and into right field in the seventh inning but was retired on a double play on a line drive off the bat of Jessica Quade to give Texas Tech the Big 12 win.
Ransom (6-10) went the distance for ISU, allowing two runs on six hits in the loss.
Crawford (9-9) struck out just four Cyclone batters but retired 11 straight after Reichling's second inning single. Katherine Cross broke that string with a walk in the fifth, but Crawford Jennifer Bigbee on strikes to stifle any threat.
Reichling went 2-for-3 in the game to lead ISU while Wike led the Red Raiders, going 1-for-1 with a hit by pitch and a sacrifice bunt.
The Cyclones and Red Raiders will play again tomorrow afternoon at Rocky Johnson Field. First pitch is slated for noon.
