LUBBOCK, Texas - Texas Tech hit a home run in the seventh inning to send the game to extra innings and Whitney Riley singled in the eighth to score the winning run and give the Red Raiders a 4-3 win over Iowa State on Sunday afternoon.
Brandy Moulin roped a hard hit single off the leg of relief pitcher Alyssa Ransom and later scored from second on Riley's single, sending the Cyclones home with their second straight loss.
After ISU stranded three runners on base in its half of the seventh, Red Raiders' freshman Brooke Neuman smashed a home run to left field to send the game into extra innings tied at 3-3.
The Cyclones (16-18, 1-5 Big 12) had taken the lead in the sixth inning on a pair of hits and two fielding errors by the Red Raiders.
Jennifer Bigbee reached on an error to open the inning and advanced to third on singles by Cary Akins and Fallon Johnson. Kristy Olsen then slapped a shot that glanced just off the glove third baseman Natalie Kula, allowing Bigbee to score the go ahead run.
Unlike Saturday's game, which was scoreless until the fifth inning, Texas Tech (15-23, 4-4 Big 12) got on the board in the bottom of the first.
A leadoff bunt single by Ashley Parker in the bottom half of the first got the rally started. Two batters later, Jennifer Bowers singled through the left side to drive home Parker, giving the Red Raiders the first lead of the game.
The lead was short lived for the Red Raiders as Iowa State responded with a run of its own in the top of the second. Bigbee ripped a double to left center, her eighth of the year, which plated pinch runner Whitney Perkins. Perkins was inserted for Jessica Quade, who led off the inning with an infield single to shortstop.
The Cyclones took their first lead in the third inning as Stephanie Mosley, who pinch ran for Ashley Killeen, scored on a sacrifice fly by Jessica Quade to put Iowa State on top 2-1.
The Red Raiders evened the game at 2-2 with a leadoff triple by Jennifer Corkin and a two-out single by Alex Watkins. Cyclone pitcher Amie Ford halted any further damage, getting leadoff hitter Ashley Parker to line out to third.
Ransom (6-11) got the loss in relief of Ford, who allowed three runs on seven hits. Ford struck out six Red Raider hitters in the game.
Erin Crawford (10-9) got her second win of the weekend. Crawford relieved starting pitcher Julie Hauck in the fifth and allowed just one unearned run on three hits.
Ellen Buehner, Akins and Johnson recorded two hits each for ISU. Quade and Bigbee had a hit and a RBI for the Cyclones.
Iowa State left 12 runners on base compared to just six for the Red Raiders.
Iowa State will host intrastate rivals Drake and Northern Iowa on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. First pitch against Drake is slated for 4 p.m. at Southwest Athletic Complex.
