The Cyclones pounded out 12 hits but were only able to score once on a Jessica Quade groundout that scored Katie Reichling.
The Owls scored two in the fifth and another in the sixth to give them the 3-1 win.
Alyssa Ransom (1-2) kept the Cyclones in the game, tossing 4.1 innings and allowing just two runs on six hits. Ransom struck out five batters in the losing effort. Amie Ford relieved Ransom and threw 1.1 innings and allowied a run on one hit.
Reichling went 3-for-4 and Ashley Killeen and Kristen Karanzias were both 2-for-3 in the game.
The teams were scoreless through four innings despite six Cyclone hits and three by the Owls.
The Cyclones were unable to score in the fourth despite loading the bases with no outs. The big play of the inning came as Alex Johnson singled to fill the bases before Amanda Bradberry, who pinch ran for Ashley Killeen, was thrown out at home plate. Bradberry had ran into the third baseman for the Owls, but the umpires ruled that no interference was made and Bradberry was called out.
The Cyclones cut into the lead in the sixth on a RBI groundout by Quade that plated Reichling, who doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning.
KSU took the momentum back with a Megan Gant homer to left field off Cyclone reliever Amie Ford to lead off the sixth inning.
Kristy Olsen roped a single to center and Jennifer Bigbee singled through the right side to get things started for
The Cyclones will be back in action Friday, Feb. 16, at Ragin' Cajuns Invitational in Lafayette, La. ISU will face Purdue, Louisiana-Lafayette, Mississippi and Baylor during the tournament.
