LAFAYETTE, La. ? Ashley DiDomenico tossed a complete game four-hit shutout and Purdue took advantage of a pair of untimely errors to defeat Iowa State, 3-0, in the first game of the Ragin' Cajuns Invitational Friday morning.
DiDomenico (1-1) had the Cyclones handcuffed for much of the contest, limiting
Four Cyclones had hits in the game, including Fallon Johnson, who has now hit safely in the last five games. Alex Johnson, Jessica Quade and Kristen Karanzias also had hits for ISU.
Ashley Hall went 2-for-4 with a run batted in to lead the Boilermakers, who out hit ISU
Things were even through two innings before the Boilermakers were able to scrap together a run in the third. Purdue's Erika Peterson rapped a double off
The Cyclones threatened in the fifth with Quade and Karanzias reaching on back-to-back singles with one-out. ISU was unable to advance the baserunners as DiDomenico got Courtney Wray and Kristy Olsen out to end the inning.
Purdue was able to add a pair of insurance runs in the top half of the seventh. DaQueta Johnson doubled down the right field line to start the inning. Johnson was pinch ran for by Amy Butcher, who came around to score on another costly error by the Cyclones. Hall later singled to plate Ashley Barr and give Purdue a 3-0 lead heading into ISU's final at bat.
DiDomenico sent the Cyclones down in order in the seventh to preserve the win.
