SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? Rachel Zabriskie scattered six hits en route to her fifth shutout of the season as Iowa State defeated San Diego, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at the San Diego Classic.
The Cyclones' (19-7) lone run came in the second inning as Jacquelyn Beatty came around to score on an error by San Diego (10-18) pitcher Kristen Gensler. Beatty, who reached on an infield single to lead off the inning, scored from second when Gensler made an bad throw while attempting to retire Sydni Jones.
Zabriskie (9-2) did the rest of the work, picking up her fifth shutout while limiting the Toreros to six hits. Zabriskie finished with seven strikeouts in the game.
Ariel Coburn led the Cyclones, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Beatty and Michelle Dettmer were the only other Cyclones with hits.
Gensler (2-2) got the loss for San Diego. She allowed one run on four hits while walking two.
The Cyclones will wrap up tournament play Sunday with a game against San Diego State at 1:30 p.m. (CDT).
