ANN ARBOR, Mich.?The No. 18 Iowa State gymnastics team fell at No. 20 Michigan Saturday 195.875-193.900 as the Wolverines registered their season-best score by over a point.
Despite the setback, the Cyclones finished strong on beam, scoring a season-best 49.000. It marks the second time ISU has scored a 49.000 on an event this season. On the apparatus, Iowa State saw career bests from senior Ceilia Maccani (9.850) and freshman Michelle Browning (9.800), while junior Megan Barnes tied her career high with a 9.825. Maccani's performance gave her the event title, while Barnes and senior Jasmine Thompson (9.825) were involved in a five-way tie for fifth place.

The Wolverines (8-2) hadn't been their usual selves out of the gate this season but were back to their traditional scores Saturday. Michigan has reached 16-straight NCAA Championships and won 15 Big Ten titles in the past 17 seasons.
A pair of Cyclone seniors had strong showings as Thompson registered a 39.200 in the all-around. Maccani had a career high on beam and a season high on vault, in addition to taking home the beam title.
“Ceilia (Maccani) and Jasmine (Thompson) were outstanding tonight,” Ronayne said. “It's impressive to see seniors get better and better. We need the rest of our team to step up to their level.”
The Cyclones started on bars while the Wolverines opened on vault. Thompson paced the Cyclones with a 9.775 as Iowa State posted a 48.650, while Michigan registered a 48.675 to take the early lead. Last season's team MVP Nikki Dilbert made her bars season debut, scoring a 9.675.
The second rotation pitted Iowa State on vault and Michigan on bars. ISU (0-4) started strong on the event as Dilbert (9.800), Thompson (9.750) and Maccani (9.750) scored season bests. Despite the strong start, the Cyclones posted a 48.200 and the Wolverines showed why they were ranked 12th on bars, scoring a 49.050. Michigan took a 97.725-96.850 lead at the midway point.
Iowa State tallied a 48.050 on floor in the third rotation as Thompson scored her third 9.850 of the season. Michigan distanced itself from Iowa State as the Wolverines scored a 48.950 on beam to take a 146.675-144.900 lead with one rotation left.
The final rotation saw the Cyclones' strong performance on beam while Michigan posted an impressive 49.200 on floor.
Michigan's Sarah Curtis garnered the all-around title with a 39.400. Thompson's 39.200 was the ISU high.
The Cyclones return to action Sat., Feb. 7, when they travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for a 6 p.m. showdown with No. 21 Minnesota in what will be Iowa State's third-consecutive road contest.
