Cyclones Beat Missouri State, 6-1

DENTON, Texas ? Jacquelyn Beatty returned to her home state and hit her first homer of the season and Rachel Zabriskie tossed a four-hitter in her return home as Iowa State defeated Missouri State, 6-1, in the first game of the Sleep Inn Classic in Denton, Texas.
The Cyclones (10-1) scored three runs in the second inning and tacked on three more in the sixth to win their third-straight.

Sydni Jones opened the second inning with her second double of the season. Amanda Bradberry was hit by a Natalie Rose pitch to give the Cyclones their first threat of the game. Carrie Monroe sacrificed Bradberry and Jones over and Beatty was then plunked to load the bases with one out.
Heidi Kidwell brought in the first run of the game by coaxing a bases-loaded walk to plate Jones. After the Bears got a force out at home, Carleigh Berry laced a single that scored Heidi Kidwell and Anna Bortz to give ISU the 3-0 edge.
Missouri State (2-4) got a run back in the fourth when Christa Gammon came in to score on a miscue by ISU catcher Alex Johnson.
In the sixth, Jones led off with another double and Monroe had a one-out double to give ISU runners at second and third with one down. Beatty then lifted her fifth career homer to give ISU the 6-1 advantage.
Zabriskie (6-1) scattered four Missouri State hits while striking out five to get the win. Rose (1-1) took the loss for the Bears, allowing six runs on seven hits.
The Cyclones will be back in action at 12:30 p.m. this afternoon against tournament host North Texas.
