Cal State-Northridge Beats ISU, 3-2, In Eight Innings

LAKEWOOD, Calif. ? Cal State-Northridge scored a pair of eighth-inning runs to defeat Iowa State, 3-2, Saturday afternoon at the Mayfair Tournament hosted by Long Beach State.
The Cyclones (13-5) scored a run in the top of the eighth inning on a triple by Heidi Kidwell that scored Amanda Bradberry, who was placed at second to start the inning because of the international tie breaker rule.

Cal State-Northridge (6-6) tied it up on a one-out infield single by Christina Saenz in the bottom half of the inning. The Matadors won the game as Saenz scored on a fielding error by ISU first baseman Sydni Jones.
CSUN had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Saenz. The Cyclones tied it up in the sixth inning on a single from Carrie Monroe that scored Carleigh Berry.
Rachel Zabriskie (7-3) took the loss for the Cyclones, allowing seven hits in the complete game. Zabriskie fanned five in the losing effort.
Amanda Pitzenberger (1-0) got her first win of the season, giving up just one hit in 2.1 innings of work for CSUN.
Iowa State will face No. 15 Fresno State at 7:45 p.m. (CT) tonight.
