PEKIN, Ill. ? For the first time in 2009 the Iowa State softball team was forced to come from behind and it responded, taking a 5-3 win over Bradley to capture the tournament championship at the Country Inn and Suites Invitational Sunday afternoon.
The Cyclones (4-0) trailed 3-1 before putting together a three-run fifth inning, which was highlighted two-run infield single by Alex Johnson. Johnson's single to shortstop scored Heidi Kidwell and Carleigh Berry. The hit gave ISU its first lead of the game after Carrie Monroe doubled to lead off the inning and came in to score after an error by the shortstop on Heidi Kidwell's stolen base drew the Cyclones to within one run.

Bradley (2-1) bounced right back with two runs on two Cyclone errors in the second inning to take the lead. The Braves added another run in the third on a RBI double by Alycia Bachkora.
Amanda Bradberry drove in her second run of the season on her third double of 2009 in the top of the seventh to give ISU some breathing room and Rachel Zabriskie closed the door on her first save of the season.
Johnson's two RBI gives her a team-high eight on the season. Berry led the team with three hits while Heidi Kidwell chipped in a pair of base hits.
Charissa Carlin (2-0) got the start for the Cyclones, giving up three runs, before being relieved by Zabriskie. Zabriskie tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up the save.
Iowa State will be back in action next weekend at the Jacksonville Tournament. The Cyclones will open tournament play Friday at 1 p.m. (CT) against Presbyterian.
