SAN DIEGO, Calif. ? New Mexico State's Kim Watson tossed a complete-game four hitter to defeat Iowa State, 1-0, in eight innings Sunday afternoon at the San Diego Classic. The extra-inning loss was Iowa State's second in the last three games and drops the Cyclones' record to 16-13.
Watson and Iowa State's Rachel Zabriskie kept opposing hitters off balance all afternoon with the Aggies finally breaking through in the eighth inning on a RBI single from Stacey Lien. Lien's hit, her first of the game, scored Kandis Jones and handed the Cyclones their fifth loss in a row.

Heidi Kidwell had two hits, including a leadoff hit in the bottom of the eighth inning, to lead the Cyclones. Carleigh Berry and Alex Johnson had Iowa State's only other hits. Johnson connected on triple with two outs in the fourth inning but Watson was able to get Courtney Wray to fly out to right field to end the inning.
Kylie Randall had two hits for the Aggies. Watson (8-5) finished with four strikeouts in picking up the win.
Iowa State returns to action Thursday with a game at Missouri State. The Cyclones open Big 12 play next Saturday at Oklahoma.
