Cyclones Drop Pair To New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ? The Iowa State softball team dropped a pair of games to New Mexico on Saturday afternoon at Lobo Softball Field. The Lobos took the first game, 3-1, before earning the sweep with a 12-4 victory in the second.
Iowa State falls to 14-8 while New Mexico improves to 8-8 this season.

In the first game, ISU had 10 hits to just three for New Mexico but was unable to turn the base runners into runs. The Cyclones left eight on base as Rachel Zabriskie (7-5) took the loss for the Cyclones.
Carleigh Berry and Courtney Wray each had a pair of hits for the Cyclones in the game. Carrie Monroe drove in the only run for the Cyclones.
New Mexico earned the sweep with a 12-4 five-inning win in the second game. The Lobos scored in every inning, including three in the first and five in the second to take control of the contest.
Monroe, Amanda Bradberry and Dalyn Varela each drove in runs for the Cyclones. Monroe collected a pair of hits in the losing effort.
Charissa Carlin (7-3) was tagged with her third loss of the season, giving up nine runs in three innings of work.
The Cyclones and Lobos will play another doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The first game will begin at 1 p.m. (CT).
