Cyclones Fall To No. 16 Texas

HOUSTON, Texas - No. 16 Texas hit four home runs en route to an 11-2 win over Iowa State Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Houston Invitational. With the loss, ISU's second in a row, the Cyclones fall to 4-5 this season.

The Longhorns (10-0) put two on the board in the first and three more in the second and never looked back. Alexis Bennett had a two-run shot in the second and Courtney Craig blasted a three-run homer in the third to highlight the UT scoring.

After Texas put another on the board in the third on Taylor Hoagland's run-scoring double, ISU put up a run in the bottom half of the inning. Alex Johnson drove in ISU's first run with a single that plated Kelsey Kidwell, who led off the inning with her own single.

Kelsey Kidwell scored again in the fourth when Heidi Kidwell doubled to cut the Texas' lead to 6-2.

That was all the closer the Cyclones got as Texas put up five more runs in the top of the seventh to lock up its 10th-straight win to open the season.

Heidi and Kelsey Kidwell led the Cyclones with two hits each. ISU was out hit in the game 13-8.

Tori Torrescano (0-1) took the loss for the Cyclones, lasting just 1.1 innings and allowing five runs on four hits.

Erin Tresselt (2-0) tossed a complete game to pick up the win for Texas. Tresselt allowed eight hits but just two runs, while striking out three in the effort.

Raygan Feight finished 4-for-4 with three runs batted in to lead the Longhorns.

The Cyclones will meet host Houston tonight at approximately 7 p.m.
