ATHENS, Ga. - Iowa State dropped a 6-1 decision to St. John's Saturday afternoon at the Georgia Softball Classic. The loss was ISU's third-straight and leaves the Cyclones at 6-8 overall.
The Red Storm (5-2) held a 10-7 edge in hits, putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning and never looking back.
Kacee Cox had the Cyclones' number all afternoon, finishing 3-for-3 with two home runs and five runs batted in. Cox homered in the first and sixth innings, while also delivering an RBI single in the second inning.
Iowa State's only run came in the top of the third as Kelsey Kidwell singled to score Amandine Habben, who was pinch running for Tori Torrescano. Torrescano singled to lead off the inning as ISU cut the deficit to 4-1.
The Red Storm got the run back in the next inning on a run-scoring single from Shauntaine Harris.
Heidi Kidwell finished 2-for-4 for the Cyclones.
Torrescano (0-2) took the loss for ISU, lasting just 2.1 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits.
Linzee Sumrall (2-2) got the win for the Red Storm. Sumrall struck out three and scattered the Cyclones' seven hits.
The Cyclones will look to halt their skid this afternoon at approximately 1:45 p.m. when they face No. 8 Georgia.
