Wray?s Single Leads Cyclones Past Hornets, 4-3

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Courtney Wray's perfectly executed squeeze bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Riverside, Calif. native Bianca Lopez and lifted Iowa State to a 4-3 win over Sacramento State Sunday morning at the Mustang Classic. The Cyclones improve to 14-12 with Sunday's victory.

Rachel Zabriskie (13-6) became Iowa State's career strikeout leader in the win. The junior, who entered the contest tied with Courtney Dully for first with 495, fanned six to go over 500 for her career.

Sacramento State (6-15) took advantage of an Erin Jones' home run and a pair of Cyclone errors to put three runs on the scoreboard in the second inning.

The Cyclones would bounce back with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to trim the lead to 3-1. Sydni Jones singled and later scored on an error in the inning.

The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth when ISU tied it with a two-run inning.

Lopez doubled to score Kelsey Kidwell for the first run, before coming in to score on Alex Johnson's single.

Zabriskie kept the Hornets off the board in the sixth and seventh innings, giving ISU a chance to pick up the walk-off win.

The Cyclones didn't disappoint their pitching ace.

Lopez tripled to right center with one out and ISU head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler called for the squeeze play. Wray executed it just like it needed to be and Lopez raced home from third with the winning run.

Lopez and Kelsey Kidwell collected two hits each, while Wray and Johnson both drove in their team-leading 18th runs of the season in the victory.

Iowa State will be back in action Thursday when it travels to Southern Illinois for a 3 p.m. game.
