FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Iowa State loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh inning, but No. 19 Louisiana-Lafayette was able to fend off the late rally to defeat the Cyclones, 4-1, Sunday at the Razorback Invitational. ISU is now 10-11 this season.
The Ragin Cajuns (14-6) got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first two innings to take control of the game.
In the first, Lana Bowers doubled to left center, bringing home Christi Orgeron to open the scoring.
Lousiana-Lafayette scored two more in the second on the first of Taryn Broussard's two homers in the game.
Broussard homered again in the top of the seventh inning off ISU pitcher Rachel Zabriskie.
The Cyclones finally scored in the bottom of the seventh.
Alex Johnson, who singled to lead off the inning, came in to score when Amanda Bradberry was hit by a pitch. The Cyclones loaded the bases with no outs on ULL pitcher Donna Bourgeois, but the junior was able to retire the next three hitters to secure the win.
Bourgeois (7-4) allowed one run on five hits while striking out seven.
Zabriskie (10-6) gave up four runs on 10 hits as the Cyclones' three-game winning streak came to an end.
